Everyone loves wondering what Mayor Manny Diaz is going to do next after his reign is up later this year. Apparently, the latest murmur is that he should run for CFO. Which, like him or not makes sense.
One of his crowning achievements was turning the City of Miami from a bankrupt, junk bond ridden mad house that the state kept on a short lease to a relatively financially stable institution.
Of course, state senator Dave Aronberg is also rumored to have his eyes on the CFO seat. That is, if Dan Gelber doesn’t change course and run for Attorney General. We’re of course assuming the independent, former-Republican Diaz would run as a Democratic. It’s hard to imagine that the Democratic establishment would line up behind potential party newcomer Diaz if one of their own makes a sensible claim for the position.
