A walk past the boutiques on Ocean Drive would lead anyone to believe South Beach fashion is represented by mannequins with triple-D implants donning jewel-encrusted Lycra covered in glitter vomit. But lest we give up and relegate ourselves to the back of the (Brazilian stretchy jeans sale) line, Funkshion: Fashion Week Miami Beach will show us the ways of couture, funky pleats, and asymmetrical cuts.
Under pop-up tents between Eighth and Tenth streets on Ocean Drive, former Heatherette designer Richie Rich and boutique owner Pachi Lake will host the first runway show this Wednesday at 8 p.m. First, though, Rich will perform his new single, and then the former club kid will throw a wild afterparty. And on March 25 from 7 to 11 p.m., Fashion Loves Haiti will spotlight that country’s emerging and leading designers. Both events are free. Then, on March 26, rock the Masquerade Motel, the closing, all-day, über-insane party featuring Swedish House Mafia.
March 23-27, 8 p.m., 2011
