Last Thursday afternoon, Two Chefs Restaurant hosted a wine tasting of Sauvignon Blancs from the Loire Valley in France. Loire Valley Wines are produced over a wide swath of the country, and so of course as one travels from east (Touraine) to west (Sancerre, Pouily-Fumé) the characteristics change dramatically. We especially liked a brashly fruity 2007 Domaine de Reuilly ($21.99); 2006 Domaine Philippe Gilbert from Menetou-Salon ($32.99); 2007 Domaine de la Perriére from Sancerre ($24.99); and 2005 Château de Tracy Pouilly-Fumé ($29.99). All are available locally.

Two Chefs’ chef/owner Jan Jorgensen and team produced amazingly delectable fare to pair with the wines. We all enjoyed our giant diver scallop from Cape Cod atop a round of livery chicken galantine, and savored gorgonzola soufflé atop toasted pumpernickel crouton. The showstopper, though, was a simple combo of lobster mushrooms with cornmeal gnocchi (plus a little truffle oil and parmigiano cheese). It reminded us why Two Chefs has been so popular for so long.
