He began writing short stories as a teenager, perfected his craft at Yale, and then founded The Paris Review with Harold L. Humes and George Plimpton in 1953. Peter Matthiessen, the National Book Award-winning author of the critically acclaimed trilogy Killing Mister Watson, Lost Man’s River, and Bone by Bone, has published more than twenty works, most of which are inspired by his personal travels. Tonight Matthiessen will discuss his research on the life of outlaw and entrepreneur Edgar J. Watson — who was murdered by his neighbors in the Florida Everglades in 1910 — when the Historical Museum of Southern Florida presents Writing the South Florida Frontier: A Lecture by Peter Matthiessen.
