Yes, Juan Luis Guerra is a Dominican merengue and bachata icon with more than 30 million records sold and a Brinks truckload of Latin Grammy and Latin Billboard awards. But most impressive, the dude is miraculously tall — like six-foot-six!
In the Spanish-language music industry, that’s unheard of. Take Don Omar — the guy is only like five-foot-11. And Marc Anthony is barely five-foot-eight. All of which makes Juan Luis Guerra a vertically gifted enigma. And this Saturday, he will use each and every bit of his incredibly impressive height for a night of música Latina with his band, 440, at the American Airlines Arena.
The Latin pop giant is touring in support of his latest record, a collection of Christian music — titled simply Colección Cristiana — which includes seven new tracks and a handful of evangelical favorites. In an interview with Fox Latino, Guerra, himself an evangelical, recently described the record as “very special, full of happiness, merengue, bachata, and son.” He also claims it’s the type of record that “can be danced to on just one foot.”
Sounds like another miracle.
