We’d brushed it off as witty banter when Tenacious D‘s Jack Black (JB) yelled at band mate Kyle Gass (Kage) for “heavy breathing into the phone” during our interview last week.

“Sorry, I wasn’t aware that I was,” Gass admitted, sounding rather embarrassed and deflated before Black could answer a query about The D’s Grammy snub.

However, JB’s abrasive tone may’ve have been the straw that broke the camel’s back. “Kyle Quit the Band,” albeit it only momentarily, midway through group’s show in Pittsburgh a few hours after we spoke.

How the meltdown could jeopardize a special appearance by Jack White and the Black Keys at Tenacious D’s upcoming Miami show tomorrow night, however, remains a mystery.

“I should say something to your readers,” Black tells us. “It’s possible that Jack White and the Black Keys will be joining us on stage for a first-time-ever superband at the end of our set.

“Now, no guarantees. I just want to put it out there for those of you on the fence, not sure whether to buy a ticket or not. It’s possible that that’s going to go down.”

Gass adds, “We’re not going to pander. We’re not going to beg you. But that very well may happen.”
