The humans are mostly quiet. They’re polite young men, willing to climb atop animals a dozen times their size and try to hold on for eight seconds. The quadruped participants in this arrangement are snorting, slobbering masses of muscle, with lethal weapons affixed to the end of their legs and to either side of their skulls. Most of the cowboys don’t have medical insurance. They ride not for the money (most hope to take home enough cash to make the next show) but for the glory of a gold buckle and a chance to keep doing what they love. To see such a dance — the bucking, the spinning, the steaming bull’s maw — is to witness the history of the beautiful, dangerous, disgusting relationship between man and beast. In this dusty arena, it’s a story written in blood. Witness the spectacle of professional bull riding at the Davie Arena this Saturday at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $13 for adults, $6 for kids 12 and younger.

Sat., Sept. 5, 8 p.m., 2009
