The Bruise Cruise is a little over a month away and
Crossfade’s still begging El Jefe to pony up $1230 for us to secure an
interior, two-person cabin on the Carnival Imagination.
Maybe the fact that Ian Svenonius will serve as the cruise’s master of ceremonies will convince boss man twelve-hundred bones is well worth the price of admission.

Svenonius will join the likes of Vivian Girls, Surfer Blood, and Miami’s own Jacuzzi Boys, among others, aboard the Carnival “Fun Ship” for the first ever Bruise Cruise.
Yesterday, promoters announced that Svenonius would act as cruise director, a position that traditionally entails hosting bingo and mingling with guests on the lido deck. According to a press release sent to Crossfade, Bruise Cruise is “thrilled to have him on board.”
As the lead vocalist and trumpeter of Nation of Ulysses, Svenonius was a key contributor to D.C.’s underground punk scene in the late ’80s, and early ’90s. He built a reputation for his wildly energetic live shows, theoretical leftist lyrics, and intellectually curious persona.
We don’t like to speculate … But Chain & the Gang, Svenonius’s latest musical project, is set to release an album some time in February, the same month as the cruise. Will Bruise Cruisers catch a not-so-impromptu set? For over $600 a head, we hope so.
