$10,000

If you think your hair’s jaunty curl is avant-garde, the creations you’ll witness at Glynn Jackson’s Hairtopia will make you reconsider. Because unless you’ve ever had a toy helicopter launch from a crevice in your beehive, your hair is blasé, basic, and b-b-boring. Jackson has produced spectacles of hair fashion for the past 17 years, taking his legendary Golden Scissors Awards from the nation’s capital to Hong Kong, Korea, and the Dominican Republic. And now it’s Miami’s turn to spin its curling irons like batons and celebrate tresses at Hairtopia. Beginning at 6 p.m. at Miami-Dade County Auditorium, local hair professionals will go strand-to-strand, creating masterpieces and vying for more than $15,000 in cash and prizes. Tickets cost $40 from ticketmaster.com.

Sun., Nov. 1, 6 p.m., 2009
