School’s out for Kari Snyder and Lamia Endara, who answer the bell tonight at 7:00 during the opening of the University of Miami’s new Project Space in Wynwood. The freshly minted MFAs will be among students and faculty exhibiting their work at the 3500-square-foot space during rotating monthly shows intended to elevate the profile of UM’s art program.
“We felt that being in an area with so many galleries, it would be a positive way to promote their careers,” says Lise Drost, chair of the department of art and art history. Domestic Daydreams features Snyder’s life-size figurative etchings and engravings in which she riffs on the trappings of domestic life and motherhood in a whimsical fashion. The Egyptian-born Endara focuses the lens inward in Portraying the Self, using photography and video to address her culture and the loss of national identity.
