Make no mistake, we love fishing. Love catching even more. But even if we didn’t know a sinker from a sailfish, we’d still be sittin’ — or boppin’, actually — on the docks and the Baywalk around the Miami Beach Marina all weekend. The Yamaha Contender Miami Billfish Tournament (in its 24th year) offers way more than the fierce fishing competition (a crew last year won $93,000 at the event). The fun begins tonight at 6:00 with a kick off party hosted by the Bonefish Grill and continues through Sunday with local artists, a farmers’ market, Hooters wings, a touch tank, face painting, raffles, vendors, exhibitions, and a casting contest. The silent auction on Sunday will offer electronics, clothing, jewelry, trips, tackle, and more. There will be plenty of info available about marine conservation, an important aspect of the tourney. The seaside partying goes from 2:00 to 7:00 Friday and Saturday; noon to 7:00 Sunday. The auction on Sunday begins at 2:00 p.m. Admission is free for spectators.
