Baby, it’s cold inside. Not the temperature, but the display of decaying, everyday materials frozen in layered resin at Fredric Snitzer Gallery. This is Gavin Perry’s solo exhibition “Glacier,” which revisits past works reminiscent of epic ’50s and ’60s painters by hacking, sawing, and cutting them apart. Covered in ribbons of prismatic color, Perry’s canvases and resin pillars are cheeky depictions of minimalist perfection, cleverly reinvented to reveal the arduous, unglamorous process of the artist’s labors.
Born in Philadelphia, Perry received his BFA at Temple University’s prestigious Tyler School of Art before exhibiting work at the Bass Museum of Art, the Barbara Davis Gallery in Houston, Projektraum M 54 in Basel, and Baumet Sultana Galerie in Paris.
