October 23 will mark the third year of the Edible Garden Festival at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. The festivities last from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. They will continue the same time the following Sunday.

“‘Going green’ has become more and more popular each year and our visitors are now interested in things like composting, using organic fertilizer and building container gardens,” Fairchild’s publicist, Paula Fernandez de los Muros says. “Its exciting to see that our community has an increased desire to learn how they can make their lives more healthy and their meals more delicious — all the while preserving ur most precious commodity: mother earth.”

Various lectures, workshops and cooking demonstrations will take place throughout the weekend. Some of the events you can look forward to are Organic Vegetable Gardening with Andres Mejides, and a cheese making demonstration with Hani Khouri.

Admission costs $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for children (6-17). It is free for Fairchild members and children 5 and under.
