Mississippi thug, David Banner, is in Miami working on his next album: The Greatest Story Ever Told. In Stores June 3rd.
We drove around Miami together on a recent Saturday night. I met up with him at Emeril’s on Miami Beach. After some drama with a valet, who locked my keys in my car, and then called a locksmith who charged me $150. David and I drove to Circle House studios in Opa-Locka where he met up with Cool and Dre, and DJ Khaled. We talked about God, Obama, Osama, aliens, Ice Cube, Dirty South rap, and other topics of interest. He admitted that he went through a period of depression, during which he was living in his van.
His real name is Levell, but don’t call him that. Don’t make him angry. He is David Banner, and as you will see in this first part of the interview, he is the best. — Jason Handelsman
