The eighth annual Mad Hatter Arts Festival hits Coconut Grove this weekend in all its creative absurdity. This year’s event will feature the same live music, silly-hat contests, and excellent artwork as previous years. There’ll also be a “Chalk It Up” street painting event and a participatory drum circle planned to get all of you closeted artistic types to join in on the Mad Tea Party. Additionally, a new element of the festival called “Watch Art Happen” will take place all weekend, in which artists are invited to designated areas to paint en plein air for attendees to enjoy.
The Mad Hatter Arts Festival will take place Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Barnacle (3485 Main Hwy., Coconut Grove) and along Main Highway. On Saturday evening, return to the Barnacle with snacks for a 7 p.m. viewing of Alice in Wonderland, the zany film that lent this fest its name.
Sat., Nov. 17, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sun., Nov. 18, 2012
Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $17,800 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
