In the years leading up to your senior prom, you imagined it would be a magical night of balloon arches and corsage/cummerbund coalescence. Instead it was a Cisco-induced blur that ended with your mom’s station wagon reeking of vomit. But tonight at Sweat Records’ Eighties Prom, you’ll have a chance to relive that enchanting evening. (Whether you decide to do things differently is up to you.)
There will be slow dances, picture booths, cheesy Eighties music, and dresses with poufy sleeves just like you remember. But this time you must be 21 or older, because the punch will be spiked even if your alcoholic algebra teacher forgets to bring his trusty flask. As an homage to your Eighties allowance, the fete is free. Party hardy to the sounds of DJs Ray Milian and Hottpants as they spin classic camp from Cyndi Lauper’s favorite decade. The throwback fun will happen at Circa28, starting at 10:00 p.m. and rolling until 5:00 a.m.
Wed., Nov. 21, 10 p.m., 2007
Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $18,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
