MTV hosted its annual Video Music Awards on Sunday night in Los Angeles. And while Crossfade’s invite got lost in the mail, one local did manage to walk across the red black carpet.
We aren’t talking about Rick Ross or Pitbull. No, we’re talking about someone a bit easier on the eyes — DJ Jessica Who. She’s best known for being one of the city’s few female DJs who commands respect from her male peers. Jessica holds her own quite well, with residencies at LIV Wednesday nights and Grand Central on Saturdays.
And all that strength behind the decks is probably why MTV and Dove picked her as part of its Dove Fresh Spin campaign. Cameras followed Jessica as she worked in Miami and got ready for the award show.
It also meant she was available for post-VMA interviews, so Crossfade called in to talk with Jessica about Miami representin’ at the award show, her favorite performance of the night, and coming home to Miami.
Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $17,250 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
Here’s a video on the backstory of DJ Jessica Who by MTV and Dove:
