It only makes sense that a boutique burger at a bistro be paired with a glass of Bordeaux. And so starting Tuesday, May 1, db Bistro Moderne is offering a complimentary glass of the austere French wine with every hamburger purchased at lunch or dinner (a pairing long favored by chef Daniel Boulud). The burger goes for $34, but diners may also get an appetizer and dessert along with their burger and Bordeaux for just a dollar more as part of the $35 prix fixe menu. That’s really quite a deal (keep in mind: this isn’t just any hamburger).
It’s also quite the way to make a $34 burger palatable. There are other ways to make it palatable as well…
For instance, the ingredients: Boulud’s burger is filled with short ribs braised in red wine and a substantial boost of foie gras. Slow-roasted tomato confit and freshly grated horseradish are applied, all bedded in a soft homemade bun.
Plus this is the burger often credited for starting the whole gourmet burger movement, so you might consider that a bit of culinary history is being included in the tab.
Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $16,750 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
The Burgers & Bordeaux deal runs through July 30. Sounds like a cool French-American prix fixe dinner, and a great way to experience dining at this elegant restaurant. If nothing else, you might want to keep it in mind for Bastille Day (July 14).
