Miami can be a pricey place to get your art on. There’s Art Basel, where the world’s 1 percent gather in South Beach to spend gazillions on the visuals. There’s the city’s myriad cultural benefits and fundraisers, with tickets often costing $100-plus. Hell, in this economy, it’s hard enough just to shell out $10 for an arthouse film.
That’s why we’re psyched about the Miami Made Festival, which is bringing some of the Big Mango’s most exciting cultural experiences to the masses — for free. Over four nights, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts will host a diverse range of shows, from performance-art masters the TM Sisters to the up close and personal theatrical stylings of Project Theatre. Choreographer Rosie Herrera will show off her latest dance moves, while Roofless Records will stage a variety show featuring Miami’s underground musicians. By fest’s end, nine of the city’s cultural wave-making projects will have performed to audiences at no cost.
