South Florida boasts a cornucopia of architectural delights, but until we landlubbers have gorged upon them from a waterway, it’s kind of like settling for the parsley garnishing a plate of filet mignon. So swear the organizers of the Regatta 2 Miami Beach Architecture Boat Cruise. “If people think Miami Beach is beautiful, wait till they see it from this perspective,” brags tour guide Randall Robinson. The weekly boat tour weighs anchor at 5:30 this afternoon, departing from 65th Street and Indian Creek Drive. The 30-seat tour boat chugs through Indian Creek, Biscayne Bay, Surprise Waterway, Surprise Lake, and Flamingo Waterway during the 90-minute ride.

Along the way, passengers can feast upon Roaring Twenties Mediterranean Revival estates, the sumptuous Art Deco resorts of mid-Beach, MiMo landmarks like the Eden Roc and Fontainebleau hotels, and sleek contemporary gems including Regatta, Aqua, and 6000 Indian Creek. What makes the trip all the more savory is the wildlife teeming off our shores. “You’ll see herons sunning themselves in the mangroves and dolphins along the way,” Robinson says.
