When advertising gurus retire, they often slip into a life of dirty martinis at noon, six packs of cigarettes per day, and screaming matches with shitty TV commercials. But not Mike Tesch. After decades spent hoarding a half-thousand ad awards, being named to AdWeek’s All-American Creative Team, and creating iconic campaigns such as “Time to Make the Donuts!” for Dunkin Donuts, the 71-year-old has decided to pursue the life of a painter. And his latest stab at art, “Ponderings,” will decorate the walls at the Kelley Roy Gallery through September 7. Stealing a few tricks from the mad world of ads, Tesch sketches single-panel comics on canvas and tags them with slogans such as “Life is a rollercoaster. Try to eat a light lunch.” He also does painted quotes, flower arrangements, and funny heads.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Aug. 28. Continues through Sept. 7, 2010
