$7,500

The election was called shortly before midnight. Barack Obama had surpassed the 270 electoral votes needed to retain his position as Commander in Chief. But the real winner of the night was Twitter.

According to Yahoo, President Obama’s personal tweet, “We’re all in this together. That’s how we campaigned, and that’s who we are. Thank you. -bo” was retweeted over 150,000 times, while a picture of the Obamas hugging was retweeted 625,301 times, breaking the retweet record set by Justin Bieber on September 12.

The President wasn’t the only person furiously working their smartphone during the nail-biting moments of the election watch. Many chefs were Tweeting their campaign views.

Andrew Zimmern concentrated on local Minnesota politics.

Tom Colicchio was following marriage equality issues.

Bobby Flay got all choked up over doing his civic duty.

Martha Stewart was so nervous — she went into town for a calming slice of pizza.

Padma Lakshmi is proud of our decision.
