Longtime Miami resident and impossibly beguiling indie hero Chan Marshall is back with the first Cat Power album of original material in over six years.
The album, parts of which were recorded in Miami, will be released on September 4. It’s called Sun and will probably be amazing because, well, why shouldn’t it be?
Checkout the first single, “Ruin” after the cut. It’s accompanied by some video of Chan defacing public property and sporting a topnotch breakup haircut.
Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $16,750 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
Marshall played everything on the album and produced it herself. It was mixed by Philippe Zdar of Cassius, who seems like a good fit based on the sound of “Ruin.”
But who knows, maybe he just sat around, looking cool and going, “That eez very good, Cat Pow-urrrr.”
