Together they brought us the creepy Burger King, the subservient chicken, the Whopper freakout, and other attention-grabbing, slightly subversive ads, but now Burger King and ad agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky, both Miami-based companies, have parted ways. It’s truly the end of an era.
Burger King hired CP+B in 2004, but while their advertising has certainly raised eyebrows, their share in the burger market has dropped. When Brazilian investment firm 3G Partner bought a majority stake in Burger King late last year, it began shaking up the top brass, including, most recently, those in charge of marketing. It seemed it was only a matter of time before BK and CP+B parted ways.
CP+B will continue to work with Burger King until a new agency is selected, a process that could take as little as three months.
