Keep Miami New Times Free
We’re $1,500 away from our spring campaign goal!
We’re aiming to raise $10,000 by April 26. Your support ensures New Times can continue watching out for you and our community. No paywall. Always accessible. Daily online and weekly in print.
The good thing about this recession: Creative minds are putting forth works untethered by the constraints of The Man and fully inspired by the shackles and freedom found within newfound poverty. The bad news: The un-creatives of the world keep knocking on our windshields, grasping a tattered Wendy’s cup and begging for a buck. The solution for all: LaidOff Camp/ Freelance Camp Miami, a conference meant to help the pink-slipped and soon-to-be-pink-slipped find creative ways to supplement current or nonexistent income, switch careers, start a business, and connect with others in the same situation. Think of it as away camp for adults, only Uncle Sam sent everyone there, not their mean mama, who wanted to go on vacay with her 20-something boyfriend for the summer. Breakfast, lunch, and conference registration are free; just visit laidoffcampmiami.org to sign up. You don’t have to be jobless to attend, but you never know what Monday morning will bring.
