You may have heard the shocking tale of Abraham Biggs, the 19-year old Broward College student who aired his own suicide via webcam in November. A tragedy, certainly. But this is the first online suicide we’ve heard of — not exactly a pandemic. Which makes the front-page headline on this week’s issue of local black paper The Miami Times somewhat inexplicable:
No reference was made in the article as to how, exactly, this teen’s death constitutes a “rising threat.” We’re thinking this is the work of a rogue editor desperate to get the rag picked up. Stay classy, Miami Times.
