Hide your heretics, France has launched a new crusade. This time ‘round, the French have invaded to sing to you about love. Crusaders of Love are a power pop, punk band on a U.S. tour for their album, Never Grow Up! They play with punk’s raw, quick energy but their melodies have pop hooks, and although their vocals may be distorted, they’re singing about affairs of the heart. It’s a sound rooted somewhere between the Buzzcocks and Big Star that’s enjoying a revival now 30 years later. They toured with Omaha garage band Brimstone Howl for a full year and opened for Memphis punker Jay Reatard on his French tour before his untimely death a few months ago.
This Saturday, Crusaders of Love will join Miami band HeartStrings at Let’s Make Memories, a So Raw Memorial Day party.
Sat., May 29, 9 p.m., 2010
