Across the Universe

Lynne Golob Gelfman is one of those rare artists whose paintings transport viewers to a place far beyond the world of appearances. Gelfman creates abstract works rife with serialized geometric patterns and forms that undulate like ripples created by a stone tossed into water. At times, her canvases seem to flow out forever. And just as movie buffs can feel the gaze of especially talented film directors while watching their work, viewers taking in a Gelfman painting can sense the artist’s lingering presence from beyond the picture plane. Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Frost Art Museum, the South Florida talent will present “Scapes: Lynne Golob Gelfman,” a hypnotic suite of works awash in swaths of limpid colors inspired by grains of windswept sand dancing across Brazilian dunes and the reflection of light glittering on Miami’s seashore. Visit the Frost, where Gelfman has created works of seemingly endless possibilities that change as you traverse them, and discover an artist whose play on perception will leave your mind blown.
