Named after Japan's famed decked-out trucks from the 1970s, which were used for throwing wild parties, the 12-seat sushi speakeasy and cocktail bar is as much an immersive art experience as it is a culinary gem. It features wall projections, mood lighting, and a small menu that has plenty of traditional Japanese specialities.
Led by chef Carlos García, formerly of Sushi by Scratch, he brings a minimalist, ingredient-forward approach to sushi. His dishes, including scallop, tuna, and hamachi crudos, spicy tuna makis, nigiri, and omakase, all feature Japanese-imported fish, A5 Wagyu, and a rice recipe refined over four years. Therefore, you can either come for the atmosphere and drinks, or make it a date night dinner.

The Sexy Cocktails Steal the Show
Christine Wiseman created the cocktails, which are loud and bold in the best way. Standouts include the "Neon Skyline," a tequila-forward beauty infused with shiso, and the "Electric Midnight," which blends Toki whisky with tamarind, curry, and lime for a complex, electric finish. For something tropical and playful, the "Turbo Mirage" layers pineapple rum, Brugal 1888, matcha, pandan, and coconut for a drink that sounds like a damn good time.

Already Going Viral On Social Media
On TikTok and Instagram, the hidden speakeasy is kind of not-so-hidden anymore, as bloggers are blowing up the spot with their excitement. Bloggers recommend sitting at the bar rather than sitting at one of the dining tables to get the best experience. For those wondering about the decor, Dekotora's theatrical spirit fits right in with Niño Gordo’s over-the-top interiors, which are filled with red lanterns, aquariums, mirrored gold rooms, and cartoon walls that somehow make you feel like you’re dining inside an anime dreamscape.
Whether you're in it for the omakase, the next-level cocktails, or just the thrill of discovering something delightfully off-the-radar, Dekotora is one of the most exciting (and electric) openings Miami's seen all year. Dekotora is open Wednesday through Sunday from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. The space is also available for private bookings, with special programming coming soon.
