Vice City Pizza Brings Detroit-Style Pies to South Miami

Vice City Pizza has officially landed in South Miami. The popular Detroit-style pizzeria, known for its square-cut pies and bold flavor combos, kicked off its summer residency at Bar Bella on Saturday, June 14. Now open Wednesday through Sunday through the end of September, the pop-up brings a slice of West Kendall to one of South Miami's most exciting neighborhood bars.

Guests can expect a rotating menu of signature pizzas, small plates, and nostalgic desserts, all served in Bar Bella's cozy, casual space at the corner of 58th Avenue and 73rd Street. With limited seating, a 90-minute dining cap, and late-night hours on weekends, the residency is already drawing crowds eager to get their hands on fan favorites like the "Roni & Hot Honey" and truffle tots.

The collaboration marks a homecoming of sorts for Vice City Pizza founder and chef Carlos Estarita, whose concept was originally born out of a shared kitchen at Abi Maria in Downtown Dadeland during the pandemic.

In a nod to those early days, the back bar at Bar Bella has been nicknamed "Abi Maria" for the duration of the residency and will feature a focused menu of small plates alongside the signature pizzas.

Vice City Pizza's menu for the residency will showcase its signature 8x10-inch Detroit-style pies, made with a two-day fermented dough, Mutti tomatoes, and a custom blend of cheeses. Popular options include the "Roni & Hot Honey," topped with Rosa Grande pepperoni and Mike's Hot Honey; the "Sausage & Peppers," finished with housemade fennel sausage, roasted peppers, ricotta, and chili oil; and the "Brie & Fig," layered with mozzarella, brie, gorgonzola dolce, pistachio, and fig jam.

A Brie-tiful Menu

The menu also includes a full slate of vegan options featuring plant-based products from The "BE Hive," such as the "Supreme" and "Ron Swanson." Gluten-free dough is available upon request for an additional charge.

Small plates at the pop-up range from short rib tartare with salsa verde and focaccia chips to truffle tots covered in fonduta and pecorino romano. Diners can also expect rotating weekday specials like a chicken parmigiana made with spicy vodka sauce and stracciatella, or a chicken caesar salad with anchovy dressing and "too much" grana padano.

Desserts include a "Timba" bread pudding made with guava marmalade and cream cheese custard, and a crispy tiramisu with pistachio mascarpone and cold brew liqueur. Sicilian pistachio and vanilla soft serve are also available.

Vice City Pizza began as a lockdown-era project by Estarita, a classically trained chef with experience at acclaimed restaurants including Michy's, Zuma Miami, and Maido in Lima. Since opening its standalone West Kendall location in 2023, the pizzeria has earned a loyal following for its bold flavor combinations and technique-driven dough.

Bar Bella, which opened in November 2024 and is owned by Jorgie Ramos, blends Basque and Valencian cuisine with American barbecue influences. The family-friendly bar is named after Ramos' daughter, Annabella, and is located at 5829 SW 73rd Street in South Miami.

Tables during the pop-up are limited to 90-minute seating, and parties of five or more will be charged a 20 percent gratuity. Takeout orders will incur an automatic 10 percent gratuity.
