This coming Wednesday, June 23, Talavera Restaurant will be introducing a new happy hour menu with a cocktail party led by master mixologist Junior Merino -- aka the "Liquid Chef". Festivities begin at 5:00 p.m., and will feature signature elixirs such as the Koki'o, with 100% Agave Tequila, Hibiscus Syrup, Orange, Chambord and Cinnamon Salt; and the Rosita, with 100% Agave Tequila Blanco, Cointreau, Dainzu Rose Syrup, Rose Salt and Rose Petals (each shown in photo). Other tantalizing drinks include South of the Rio with Leblon Cachaca, English Cucumber, Lemongrass Syrup and Jalapeno;  and the Cubico with 100% Agave Tequila Anejo infused with Tobacco, Dainzu Agave Nectar, Roasted Pineapple and Saffron Salt. Admit it -- you have never tasted a cocktail with tobacco and saffron salt before.

Each specialty drink by Junior Merino will be $8.50, and for the opening party includes

unlimited complimentary menu samplings. Talavera's standard happy

hour, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., brings 50% off well drinks and margaritas for

$5.50.

Junior Merino hails from Puebla, Mexico, which matches him thematically

with the restaurant's namesake Talavera pottery -- also from Puebla. Junior set up cocktail programs at New York City's The Modern

and Rayuela, Tokyo's ANA Hotel and Mexico City's famed Izote

restaurant. So it seems as though another great mixologist has arrived in Miami.

We'll drink to that.
