Palate Party Food Truck Owner in Accident; Weekend Truck Tracker

Palate Party owner and chef Robyn Almodovar was airlifted to Broward General Hospital, then Jackson Memorial Hospital after an accident on her Palate Party truck left her with burns to her face.

We spoke with chef Almodovar, who was released from the hospital yesterday evening. "I have no eyebrows", Almodovar told Short Order. The chef/owner had a great sense of humor about the incident, as she cleared up some rumors involving that evening.

"No ... my truck wasn't on fire. The only thing on fire was me", she told us.

She said the incident occurred as she was setting up for a food truck roundup outside Cypress Bay High School in Weston on Wednesday, around 4:15 p.m. Almodovar had turned on the main propane valve on her truck (there are three valves). She then turned on the master switch after waiting 45 seconds and felt a surge of heat (Almodovar admits that the she forgot to turn off a burner the night before, causing a gas buildup). Her cook then told her that her hair was on fire.

Thinking quickly, the food truck chef/owner doused a towel with cold water, put it on her face and called for medical help. She said she was surprised to find herself being airlifted to the hospital by BSO Medics.

Since the truck suffered no damage, the Le Cordon Bleu graduate plans to resume dinner service tonight at Al Hendrickson Toyota, if she's feeling up to it. That determination will be made sometime today. Whether or not Palate Party is out tonight, the truck will resume a normal schedule by tomorrow. Check its Facebook page for schedule updates.
