New Speakeasy Brings 1920s Vibes, Cocktail Classics to Hialeah

Speakeasies are not terribly uncommon in Miami, but how many are located behind a strip club in Hialeah?

9 Feet Under, which opened in February, can be accessed from a side entrance at Bellas Cabaret (885 SE 14th St., Hialeah). Ring the bell, and you’ll step through the black door and be whisked away to a time when Prohibition was in full force and Jay Gatsby hoped Daisy Buchanan would pop in for a visit.

And now, the hidden speakeasy is becoming every foodie and cocktail connoisseur's best-kept secret, with local bloggers raving about its 1920s atmosphere, delicious bar bites, and vast craft cocktail menu.

This Might Be Hialeah's Most Bougie Bar Yet

At the bar, 9 Feet Under serves expertly crafted cocktails with prices ranging from $16 to $25 — a bit of a sticker shock considering this is Hialeah and not South Beach.

Signature cocktails include the "Tour of Italy" (Strega liqueur, Asti, fig syrup, and Una vodka), the "Snow Bird" (Askur London Dry Gin, Lagoon Icelandic Orange liqueur, oleo saccharum, and lemon juice), and the "Black Gold" (Don Julio Reposado and Cuban cafecito).

At $25, "El Chapo" (Don Julio Añejo Tequila, Cointreau, orange bitters, and simple syrup) is the most expensive offering on the menu. An entire menu is dedicated to Old Fashioned cocktails and classic cocktails like the Manhattan, Negroni, Tom Collins, and Mojito. The bar also offers bottle service at standard nightclub prices.
One of the best parts might be its bar bites, like chicken wings ($17), ham croquetas ($12), truffle fries ($12), and a sample platter ($25). From the cheesy tequeños to the croquetas de jamón, it's every Miami foodie's dream. There's also weekly programming like Karaoke Thursdays, Live Jazz Fridays, and Tropical Sundays with a live DJ.

But don't worry — if you aren’t interested in the strip club aspect of the building, no worries. The two spots are pretty much separate, meaning you won’t see any ladies work the pole here. The only shared facility is the parking lot.

So far, the response has been pretty positive, with users on sites like Yelp praising the atmosphere and service. "Service is great, such a vibe. A perfect spot for a good drink and music without the younger crowds," wrote Lila T. in her Yelp review of the bar.

The low-key spot is open Wednesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. A "smart casual" dress code is strictly enforced.
