For years, South Miami’s dining scene has been quietly humming with new openings, with several award-winning restaurants and local favorites steadily carving out their place. Now with the recent arrival of Kitchen 57, the area has a fresh option that adds a new layer of flavor to the table.

This family-owned spot, led by owner and executive chef Michael Altman, offers a thoughtfully curated menu that blends high-quality ingredients with approachable, soul-filling dishes. Whether grabbing a quick bite or enjoying a night out, Altman's mission is to serve exactly what the neighborhood has been craving — exceptional food without the fuss.

“We’re offering dishes that would certainly be found in high-end restaurants, but we’re doing it in a way that’s comfortable and welcoming to everyone,” Altman said. “We’re not just opening another restaurant. We’re part of something bigger — a new chapter for South Miami’s dining culture.”

Chef Altman of Town Kitchen & Bar Brings His Three Decades of Experience

Altman, a Culinary Institute of America graduate with over 30 years of experience, designed Kitchen 57 with a community-focused approach, aiming to create a space where friends, families, and professionals of all ages can come together.

The menu reflects that ethos, with New American-inspired dishes that are well-crafted without being overcomplicated. Begin with the Belgian-style mussels, served in a white wine broth with hand-cut fries and herb aioli, or the tuna poke cups, filled with fresh ahi tuna, toasted cashews, and sesame poke sauce.

For pizzas, the truffle mushroom, with wild mushrooms, roasted garlic, goat cheese, and truffle essence, is a standout. But if you’re in the mood for a classic, the Margherita, made with blistered cherry tomatoes, burrata, and fresh basil, won’t disappoint.

From Slow-Cooked Baby Back Ribs to Mint Chocolate Chip Sandwiches

Main courses range from the California-influenced “cioppino,” a seafood stew with fish, clams, mussels, and shrimp in a citrus-scented lobster broth, to a quintessential roasted half chicken, served with fingerling potatoes, heirloom carrots, and spinach in a savory au jus, or savory, slow-cooked baby back ribs.

Rounding out the menu is a full-service bar with cocktails like the “Cilantro Ramos,” which combines gin, Demerara syrup, and egg white, and an espresso martini with dark rum, coffee liqueur, and espresso.

Kitchen 57 offers a private dining room, accommodating up to 40 guests for special occasions and corporate events. In addition to lunch, dinner, and happy hour, the restaurant recently launched weekend brunch service on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
