La Gloutonnerie Closes, Will Reopen as Different Concept

La Gloutonnerie, the upscale French bistro in South Beach, has closed.

The restaurant has shuttered as of today and, according to a spokesperson, is undergoing a new look and concept.

The restaurant, owned by Mexico City's Cooley family, is teaming up with a still-unnamed restaurant group in the eatery's revamp. Although the name of the restaurant group was not disclosed, it is said to be a well-known group that's Miami-based.

La Gloutonnerie opened in May 2012 and was named for the overstuffed glouton sandwich invented by Marco Cooley. In a review, New Times' critic Lee Klein said the restaurant "is putting out authentic French fare — quite delicious, really." The restaurant's brunch, a lavish affair filled with French pastries, cheeses, charcuterie, and sparkling wine, was named Best Brunch of 2013.

Sadly, the restaurant gave no notice of its closing and subsequent retooling, so there was no last chance to feast on the brunch that usually boasted Dover sole and the most opulent presentation of breads to grace Miami Beach.
