Walking into the new Brother Jimmy's in the middle of Mary Brickell Village, the first thing you notice is the giant pig statues in the front and hanging from the ceiling. Several seating areas await you, and there's a huge open area near the bar that looks like it is awaiting a mechanical bull. Most barbecue restaurants aim to convince diners their pulled pork is the best. The folks at Brother Jimmy's are too busy helping you have a good time. Their pulled pork speaks for itself.
Indeed Brother Jimmy's is all about the Carolina pulled pork. Prepared using Brother Jimmy's Carolina barbecue sauce, which is essentially just vinegar and cayenne pepper, the meat is astoundingly tender. It sits in the marinade overnight and then a dash of traditional barbecue sauce provides a flavorful contrast to the tartness of the vinegar.
Not in the mood for pulled pork? Both the ribs and the brisket are excellent and come with your choice of a number of sides. Brother Jimmy's best deal, however, has to be the endless tap and wings/ribs special on the weekends. For $25.95 on Sunday, you get all the ribs you can eat AND all the tap beer you can drink for two hours. The same goes Saturday, but with wings instead of ribs for $18.95. There are truly no specials like that in any of the innumerable overpriced Brickell establishments.
All are welcome, apparently except for NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, whose picture hangs in the window with the phrase "Do not serve this man." Wondering why? Well, there is a good chance part-owners Jonathan Vilma and other former Hurricanes football players had something to do with that. Goodell has been scorned for his fining of certain defensive players, including Vilma, for what he (subjectively) considers an illegal tackle.
