Let's face it: carbs are one of the best things in life, and bagels are the friend who will always be there for you. Whether you're a born-and-raised New Yorker searching for a nostalgic fix in South Florida, or just someone who loves the magic of dough that is boiled to chewy perfection, Fort Lauderdale has leveled up its bagel scene big-time in recent years (as well as its wonderful restaurant scene).

We're talking everything from the glistening, sesame-crusted classics at Goldberg's Delicatessen and Bagels to the cheddar-habanero bagels at Bagels & Co. And, while plenty of delis and bakeries claim they're making New York-style bagels, these nine delis actually deliver, complete with delicious schmears and piled-high sandwiches.

Just in time to plan your next delicious bagel run for your friends and family, here are the nine best bagel joints in Fort Lauderdale, ranked alphabetically (because arguing about which is actually best is always half the fun, anyway).

Pompano's longtime go-to for that straight-outta New York vibe, Bagel Snack has been serving locals for over 40 years. The no-frills dining room has the charm of a deli that prioritizes bagel bliss over trendy tilework, and honestly, that's exactly the point. The chewy, golden bagels are made daily and go great with anything from a slab of nova to a skyscraper-sized pastrami sandwich. It's the kind of place where regulars order "the usual" and the counter crew actually knows what that means.

If Willy Wonka opened a bagel factory, it might look something like this bright-eyed, flavor-forward concept tucked in Fort Lauderdale's Tarpon River. Sure, you can play it safe with a plain or poppyseed, but why would you when rainbow, Oreo, Dorito, and cheddar habanero exist? Pair your pick with one of their housemade schmears...black truffle or birthday cake, anyone? Or you can go full-tilt with a Jersey Shore sandwich packed with every breakfast meat known to man. It's maximalism on a bagel, and we’re here for it. P.S. - there's also a location in Wilton Manors.

Regulars swear by the cinnamon sugar, jalapeño cheddar, and sun-dried tomato options, all often slathered with one of their ten or so cream cheese varieties like garlic herb or honey walnut. There's a humble charm here: no flash, just expertly crafted bagels that hit you with all the right nostalgia.

From the Bronx to the 954, Goldberg's brings serious deli DNA to our nook of the globe. With roots tracing back to 1949 and a family legacy of bagel baking passed down through generations, this joint doesn't just serve bagels, it really does live and breathe them. The pastrami, egg, and Swiss on your bagel of choice hits the perfect breakfast trifecta of smoky, gooey, and yeast-forward. Downtown Fort Lauderdale gets a dose of New York sass at this vibrant, family-run café that blends tradition with trendy flair. It's a fast-casual joint with serious soul. The bagels here are crafted from generational recipes, bustling sidewalk seating, and a menu built to impress. The "BECTA" (bacon, eggs, cheddar, truffle oil, avocado) is basically a breakfast mic drop, and if you're feeling extra brave (or extra hungover), the "Hangover Pt. 2" with a latke and hot honey sausage is a must.

This low-key legend has gone by many names over the decades, Harry's, H&E Marina Deli, we can go on, but no matter the signage, the lox has always slapped. Locals swear by the quality of the nova and the no-nonsense breakfast bagels that fuel power meetings, family brunches, post-boat recovery bites, and the in-between. While the menu is ever-evolving, the heart and soul of this spot is unwavering: deli authenticity.

Pomperdale is what happens when New York refuses to stay in New York...in a good way. For over 50 years, this East Commercial stronghold has served mile-high sandwiches and pristine bagels to snowbirds and natives alike. They may keep the bagel flavors classic, like plain, sesame, everything, but the hand-sliced nova, chive cream cheese, and mastery behind each bite speak volumes. Plus, it's one of the rare places where the matzo ball soup and blintzes go toe-to-toe with the bagels for MVP status.

The popular deli brings a nostalgic vibe to Fort Lauderdale's growing bagel scene. Founded by restaurateur Elliot Wolf about a decade ago, the deli pays tribute to Wolf's grandfather Max, who brought his vintage top hat from Germany in the 1930s. Yelp praised Top Hat as "a modern take on the classic Jewish deli, combining nostalgic charm with creative twists and a lively, welcoming atmosphere." The spot earned recognition for its "commitment to scratch-made comfort food — including bagels that are baked fresh daily and loaded high in inventive breakfast and lunch sandwiches." Plus, they make a killer pizza bagel.
