Salman Rushdie will be in town to close up the Miami Book Fair, but his ex-wife Padma Lakshmi will be on television across the nation tonight hosting the season premier of “Top Chef: New York.” We’ve already introduced you to contestant Jeff McInnis, dubbed “hot chef of our dreams” in a Best of Miami write up. His day job is as Chef de Cuisine of The Ritz-Carlton’s DiLido Beach Club. He’ll be sharpening his knives to prepare to do culinary battle with 17 other chefs. He may have the chops to serve some of South Beach’s most discerning foodies, but can he please Padma’s delicate palate?

Top Chef kicks off tonight on Bravo at 10 p.m.
