I’ve been waiting with baited breath for the day to finally arrive. “The Food Wife”, the long awaited Simpsons episode which has Marge, Lisa, and Bart food blogging, airs this Sunday on Fox.
In anticipation of this 30-minute episode, Fox has released four teasers (probably because they were about to be leaked, anyway). In the clips, Marge, Lisa, and Bart start a blog called The Three Mouthketeers. They get instant fame, fly to Singapore to eat stingray with Anthony Bourdain, and jet to that famous shrine of molecular gastronomy El Chemistri to eat deconstructed salad in test tubes.
What’s funny is that it reminds me so much of the actual life of a food
blogger …n ot! Yes, the job is pretty amazing, and I’m not complaining as I
plan my weekend of food festivals, but the
closest I’ve gotten to hanging out with Anthony Bourdain is stalking him
in an IHOP parking lot in Miami Beach. And Ferran Adria has yet to serve
me anything in a test tube.
Eating in a restaurant or even at
home can turn into work if you let it. My husband and friends are used
to my pulling out a camera and shooting a few pictures
before they can tuck into their food. And covering
evening events sounds like fun … until you’re up
at 4 a.m. resizing photos to make a 9 a.m. deadline.
Still
it’s the coolest job I can think of. The only thing
cooler than being a food blogger … is being a food blogger on The Simpsons.
Since I’ve already been called a cartoon in some comments, I’m perfect for the job. Matt Groening, please call me.
By the way, here are the four previews:
In this first clip, Homer names his favorite restaurant – Le Fridge. At Le Fridge there’s no dress code and its open 24 hours a day. Homer demonstrates this by stripping down to his BVD’s and ingesting everything in sight.
In this teaser, Lisa watches that new cooking show Alchemy Street, where molecular gastronomy makes eating food way cool. When the chef at El Chemistri whips up pine needle sorbet, Homer’s mortified. “Pine needle sorbet? My kids eat sherbert and they wish it was ice cream.”
Anthony Bourdain visits Marge in her dreams in this clip.Tony gives us the secret behind his show – he’ll go anywhere in the world as long as he’s paid in emeralds and there’s champagne shooting out of his hotel bidet. Watch for a special foul-mouthed celebrity guest.
Ferran Adria’s whipped up some deconstructed Caesar salad for the mouthketeers. How to eat the salad-in-a-test-tube? “Gel, ice, foam, gel, ice, foam, air.” Yum.
