Keep Miami New Times Free
We’re aiming to raise $7,500 by April 26. Your support ensures New Times can continue watching out for you and our community. No paywall. Always accessible. Daily online and weekly in print.
A Miami-Dade County commissioner wants us to know that $790,000 is a “little bit of money and not a whole lot.” During the May 3 discussion concerning the Public Health Trust’s executive board, Javier Souto digressed from one of his typical winded soliloquies on the role of county commissioners to tell the “New Times people” that he earned his six-figure net worth through hard work.
“I haven’t robbed from anybody or done anything wrong,” Souto said. Just to clarify commissioner, we never said you stole to get where you are at.
Our position is that you shouldn’t be asking for an $86,000 raise when you’re raking in $82,090 from your commission perks and have plenty of other sources of income. Although we still admire your keen perspective on the thing that really matters, “the big ham.”
