Another Culinary Cattle Call
The Miami Wine & Food Festival begins this week (April 22-24). Tickets cost $250 for VIP
(presumably meaning you won’t get treated like sheep), $100 at the door
(baaah, baaah), and $75 in advance (baaah, baaah). If you want to
attend the interactive dinner with Todd English, that’ll be $250. The
money benefits Camillus House and United Way.This is billed as the 15th
annual MFWF, which begs the question: Really?

Eater.com has outed some restaurant critics and seems to think I bear a striking resemblance to the original Freddy Krueger actor. They’ve got it all wrong. I’m more the Hannibal Lecter type.
Bookstore Welcomes Almost Renowned Chef
Books & Books will host two book-signing events with “renowned chef Rafael Palomino,” in tandem with the release of his latest cookbook, Latin Grill (Chronicle Books, $19.95). The first signing takes place May 5 at 8 p.m. inside the Coral Gables venue. The next night, at the Books & Books on Lincoln Road, beginning at 5 p.m., B&B Café chef Bernie Matz will prepare a tasting of Palomino’s recipes (wonder why Palomino won’t be preparing them). The $50 sampling includes choice of starter, such as grilled arepas with queso blanco and corn salsa, main dish (perhaps grilled salmon with soy-panela glaze, or “Palomino’s famous burger”), plus dessert and an autographed copy of Latin Grill.
Renowned chef? Famous burger?
