The last year or so has been tough for our city’s paper of record, where I used to work. Reporters at the Miami Herald have gotten the shaft, and editors have been forced to do double duty. But hey, guys, please cover the City of Miami. It is the wheel around which the city spins.

Chuck Rabin’s story this morning was a damn good start. Only problem is that it looked a lot like the very same story New Times staff writer Tim Elfrink published three weeks ago. The one difference we could spot: The FBI is looking into the deal.

For the record: Rabin is one of the hardest-working people at the newspaper. (Check out a byline search.) It’s more a question of resources. The city has never been a top priority at the newspaper. I know. I used to cover it.
