Unlike Riptide, most local news outlets do not take shots at other media in their stories. But local CBS affiliate WFOR took a big swipe at Fox affiliate WSVN in the opening paragraph of a story about Ray Allen. You might remember WSVN broke into its 11 p.m. newscast Thursday to incorrectly report that Allen had signed with the Heat, based on a tip from a fake Twitter account.

WFOR’s Tim Kephart led with a direct jab at WSVN’s blunder, calling it a “‘Dewey Defeats Truman’ moment.” The story was shortly thereafter edited, with the comment deleted, but WQAM’s Andy Slater grabbed a screen shot and posted it on Twitter.

The report was replaced later in the day with this.

Come on, WFOR, there’s nothing wrong with a little good-natured swipe at a rival. Or maybe we’re just saying that because we made a joke about WSVN’s blunder when Allen actually did sign with the team.
