Owing to its proximity to Haiti and the large local Haitian population, Miami has become something of a domestic headquarters for U.S. efforts to provide relief to Haiti after being devastated by a massive earthquake.

This morning, President Obama announced Vice President Joe Biden will be in the area this weekend.

"I've asked Vice President Biden to meet in South Florida this weekend with members of the Haitian-American community and with responders who are mobilizing to help the Haitian people," the president said.
