Seems like the University of Miami can't hold onto an athletic director. Current AD Shawn Eichorst officially offered his resignation today and will take the same job at the University of Nebraska. This will be the second athletic director in a row UM has lost to a bigger school.
Eichorst was only hired in April 2011 and has spent barely a year and a half on the job. He spent even less time in the position as his predecessor, Kirby Hocutt.
Hocutt did about three years before resigning to take over at Texas Tech.
Eichorst, however, was left to pick up the pieces of his predecessors, as news of the Nevin Shapiro scandal publicly broke just months into his tenure.
The AP reports Miami is now "scrambling" to find a replacement:
Eichorst was believed to be working closely with the NCAA during the joint inquiry into the athletic department, so his departure comes at a difficult time for the department -- and the university, which is already dealing with a number of issues unrelated to the investigation, such as dwindling football attendance and major financial problems involving its highly touted medical school. Now, if only someone could find someone who wants to stick with the job for more than a few years before taking the first train out of town.
