Support the independent voice of Miami and help keep the future of New Times free.

Hurricane season is in full swing, and although we've been spared so far, there is plenty of time left for a strike. Hurricanes are a part of life in South Florida, and part of hurricanes is the hurricane party. There is nothing like hunkering down in your favorite pub with all your friends and riding out the storm with a nice buzz. Here at the New Times staff will bunker at Churchill's, Mike's at Plaza Venetia and Speedy's among other spots.

Where's your favorite hurricane refuge, and why? The New Times is compiling a list of the Top Ten Places for a Hurricane Party. Leave a comment below to lodge your vote, and once all of the votes have been tallied we will publish the final list right here in Riptide.

Keep Miami New Times Free... Since we started Miami New Times, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Miami, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Miami with no paywalls.
