Less than 24 hours after voters across the nation cast their ballots in a tense presidential election, violence broke out in Miami's Overtown neighborhood when a political discussion ended in a triple shooting early Wednesday morning.

At approximately 12:25 a.m., Miami police responded to a location just east of I-95 near the intersection of NW 19th Street and NW Sixth Avenue, where three women were wounded by gunfire following a dispute that escalated into tragedy.

City of Miami Police Department spokesperson Michael Vega informs New Times via email that the shooting occurred after a group of individuals gathered to drink and discuss politics. As the conversation became heated, one individual retrieved a firearm from a nearby vehicle and opened fire on the group, striking three women.

Paramedics transported the victims to Jackson Memorial Hospital Trauma Center nearby, where one woman remains in critical condition while the other two are listed as stable.

Police have not yet made any arrests, and the suspect's identity remains unknown.

Though isolated, the incident reflects heightened tensions nationwide in the aftermath of the November 5 election that will return former president Donald Trump to the White House in January 2025.
