Saturday Night Live premiered its 38th season over the weekend, and as expected in an election year, kicked the political comedy into overdrive. Aside from the debut of a new Obama impersonator and a riff on Clint Eastwood’s empty chair obsessions, the show got into some Florida specific (well, kinda) politics with the introduction of “Mimi Morales,” a Chonga-esque get-out-the-vote worker from Florida played by newcomer Cecily Strong.

Is anyone getting more New York Latina vibes from this character than the true Florida chonga they should have been going for? Even if they’d be a few years too late to the game, we think Chongas are ripe for SNL spoofery (even if MadTV already had their West Coast counterparts covered).

Saturday Night Live has driven the parody of NYC accents into the ground, and Strong is channeling more of Bronx tinge to her voice. Like, if you supposebly trying to spoof Florida, at least get the accent right, bro.
