Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You
We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
When Charlie Crist announced he’d be leaving the Republican Party of Florida, the RPOF realized it had no more use for its fancy, slightly awkward-looking oil painting of the governor that used to hang in party headquarters. So, like a crazy ex who desperately wants the world to know they are so over it, they put it up on eBay.
Bidding closed today on the painting by artist D. Arthur McBride, and the auction ended with a $7,700 bid from an anonymous buyer. The RPOF actually made a handsome profit: It bought the artwork, along with a painting of ousted party chief Jim Greer, for $7,500 in October last year. The works were commissioned by former executive director Delmar Johnson.
As for that auction that purported to be for a picture of Charlie Crist snorting cocaine in the ’80s (for the low, low price of $600,000), that’s been taken down.
