Al Golden isn’t the only coach from Temple making the move to Miami. According to several reports out of the Philadelphia media, it seems that his defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio is likely to join him. Going solely by this year’s ranking, D’Onofrio is a pretty good choice. The Miami Hurricanes had the 16th best defense in the nation this year, while D’Onofrio lead the Temple Owls to be ranked the 17th best defense.

D’Onofrio was considered the main candidate to replace Golden at Temple, but the school has announced a national search.

“Sources close to the situation said D’Onofrio was not offered the job, won’t be part of the search and appears likely to join Golden in Miami,” reports the Philadelphia Daily News.

D’Onofio is a close friend of Golden’s, and a former teammate at Penn State. He seems to be a respectable replacement for current dc John Lovett.

The ‘Canes may have had the second best passing defense in the NCAA this year, but Temple sat at a respectable 14, and far outranked the ‘Canes in rushing defense, and slightly in scoring defense.
